Women’s Groups

Presbyterian Women

All the ladies of Gilwood church are considered members of the Presbyterian Women.

Our purpose  is as follows:  Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible Study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s Kingdom.

We have 4 meetings per year, in February, May, August, and November.  Normally at our February meeting we have a guest speaker who informs us of opportunities to help those in need.  Our three circles meet monthly, each is currently doing a different study.  We also support a small group Bible study that meets weekly.  We have recently organized a prayer team to support our church’s evangelistic efforts.

PW Service Work

Fundraisers include biannual bake sales and the occasional special project, such as a dinner or bingo night.  Monies raised in the past have gone to improve and beautify our church facility and in support of many charitable organizations, such as Breast Cancer, Meals on Wheels, Elder Orphan Care, Hospice House, etc.  We participate in the blanket offering for Church World Service.  We give to Presbytery designated offerings including the least coin, thank offering, and birthday offering.

Routinely, we provide devotion books for the congregation, Bibles for newborns, meals for bereaved families, cards and gifts to shut-ins and college students.  A memorial is written for each woman who passes away, read at one of our meetings and given to family members who attend.  Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women is presented to a woman who has made contributions to our Gilwood PW.
